Manufacturing of parts by mold casting
This method is used for serial production of parts with complex shape, where the tooling pays off through batch repeatability.
Casting precision and tolerances are not stated universally: they depend on material, shape, shrinkage, tooling, and subsequent machining.
When to choose casting
Mold casting is chosen when the part has complex geometry, repeats serially, and full machining of each unit from a blank is not efficient. The method can be used for parts with internal features that are difficult to obtain by milling.
For one-off items, prototypes, and parts with tight fits, casting must be compared with milling, turning, or a combined method: forming plus subsequent machining.
Which parts it suits
| Part type | Why casting is considered |
|---|---|
| Small serial parts | Shape repeatability once tooling is in place |
| Parts with complex geometry | Shape is defined by tooling |
| Small insulation bushings | Serial production and repeatable geometry |
| Nuts and threaded fasteners | Requires confirmed technology and thread inspection |
| Parts with internal cavities | Feasibility depends on mold design |

Materials for casting
Quality control
- geometric dimensions per drawing;
- thread — where present and where inspection technology is confirmed;
- absence of pores, voids, cracks and visible defects;
- material grade conformance;
- additional machining and inspection — per specification.
